When a leader communicates to her followers the importance of accepting responsibility for their actions, she is well on her way to developing great leaders. A leader who instills a sense of responsibility in his subordinates while also holding them accountable for that responsibility demonstrates to his followers that they matter.

Leadership can be a lonely task, but when you create and develop a sense of responsibility in your subordinates, you are far from alone. Creating a sense of responsibility in your followers is one of the times when Leaders and Followers collaborate to make something good happen. When a leader and his follower communicate, good things happen. The leader's intent (to instill a sense of responsibility) is communicated to his subordinates, who then interpret it for the leader.

Be a leader who not only encourages her followers to accept responsibility for their actions, but also expects them to learn from their successes and failures as part of accepting responsibility.[1]

Being in a position of leadership requires a person to set a good example, make decisions, be fair and reliable, and have integrity. Commitment, on the other hand, is one of the most important qualities. If you want your team to work hard and succeed, you must set a good example. There is no better motivator than seeing the person in charge working alongside everyone else, where the work is being done on all levels. By demonstrating your dedication to the overall goals and your own role, you will not only earn the respect and admiration of your team, but you will also inspire the same hardworking energy in your subordinates.

It is critical to demonstrate your dedication not only to the current goal, but also to your promises. In keeping your word, you want to establish a reputation for not only being tenacious, but also for being a fair leader. When you have earned the respect of your team, they are more likely to put in the effort required to reach the end goal.[2]
