Everyone is curious about what is going on. Everyone wants to be a part of the action. Everyone must be aware of what is going on. Your people are curious about what is going on. We all know that not all information can be passed along. Withholding information is necessary for two reasons: security and privacy.
That should never, however, be the sole reason for withholding ALL information. A leader who genuinely cares about his people / followers will provide just enough information to keep people interested until more information can be revealed or released.
Furthermore, a LEADER should NEVER spread rumors. A true leader will do all in his ability to dispel any rumors that may exist and to make sure that those that do end with him. It is the duty of a leader to prevent rumors from spreading, not to encourage them to start in the first place or to continue.
People will constantly seek more. Be cautious while discussing highly sensitive topics because doing so could put you in a precarious situation for which you have been warned.
Do you very best to keep them informed. Informed people are better understanding when it comes to accepting change. Informed people are easier to see what you bring to the table, as a leader & as a member of the organization. Informed people are more apt to follow a leader that does not pull any punches and delivers on her promise to bring valid, honest information.[1]
