A good leader is one who can "walk the talk." In this section, we'll go over what it means to lead by example. To lead by example is to guide others through your actions rather than your words. Your goal is to inspire others to emulate your actions. The inverse of leading by example is saying one thing and doing another. The adage "do as I say, not as I do" may have been true in the past, but it is no longer applicable in today's world. Your subordinates want to see that your actions match your words. This entails aligning your routines, practices, and behaviors with your core values.
four reasons why it’s important to lead by example;
1. Boosts your men's morale
A great leader understands that their actions have an impact on employee attitudes, satisfaction, and performance. Morale rises when leaders set a good example. This results in increased company loyalty and productivity.
2. Builds trust and respect
Someone who leads by example can expect their team to trust and respect them. Superiors regard them as capable team leaders, while employees regard them as trusted mentors. A trustworthy leader can inspire teammates to respect and trust one another. This organizational cohesion has the potential to increase customer loyalty.
3. Promotes a positive work environment
An organization's personality is reflected in its workplace culture. It may include the company's objectives, work practices, beliefs, and behaviors. Businesses with leaders who "walk the talk" embody these values on a daily basis. This dedication to workplace values fosters a positive work environment and contented employees.
4. Increases productivity
It is easier for teams to be productive when they see their leader putting in the effort, keeping promises, and focusing on common goals. There is a stronger desire to work hard and do work that will make the team proud. When a leader's actions and words match, the team doesn't waste time deciphering their intent or agenda. Leaders teach their teams to develop more effective and efficient processes by setting a good example. [1]
